In the sales and application of polyethylene pipeline systems, approximately 15% - 20% of the sales volume is attributed to pipe fittings. The pipe fittings of polyethylene pipeline systems are mainly divided into two types: hot-melt pipe fittings and electrofusion pipe fittings. Due to price reasons, the usage of hot-melt pipe fittings is higher than that of electrofusion pipe fittings in engineering applications. However, electrofusion pipe fittings are more commonly used in construction and maintenance. During construction, electrofusion pipe fittings are less affected by external environments and human factors, so they have good reliability and are popular among users. In particular, electrofusion pipe fittings are being increasingly used in gas pipeline projects. At the same time, due to the complex production technology, high cost, and relatively high selling price of electrofusion pipe fittings, the profit margin of electrofusion pipe fitting manufacturers is relatively high, making it a hot spot for investment. At the same time, since the matrix of electrofusion pipe fittings is made of PE material, together with the PE pipeline system composed of PE pipes, it solves two major problems of traditional pipelines: corrosion and leakage at joints. Its advantages are mainly reflected as follows: (1) Corrosion resistance: Long service life; (2) No leakage at joints: Using electrofusion pipe fittings for connection essentially ensures the identity of the interface material and structure of the PE pipeline system with that of the pipe body itself, achieving the integration of the joint and the pipe; (3) Effective resistance to underground movement and end loads: After the PE pipeline system is connected by the fusion method, the joints based on this method can withstand end loads and will not leak. At the same time, the stress relaxation characteristics of PE can effectively consume stress through deformation. Therefore, in most cases, expensive anchoring is not required at joints and bends. Additionally, due to its high toughness, with an elongation at break generally exceeding 500%, the PE pipeline system has a strong adaptability to uneven settlement of the pipe foundation.
